Landon's Glasses

Landon went for his 6 month eye check up last week, and Dr. Donahue informed us that Landon needed to wear glasses. I was shocked; I wasn't expecting it even though I knew it was a possiblity. Everything since his surgery has been going so well and in our favor, that I just thought this check up would be the same. It has been hard for me to accept. I know that in the grand scheme of things it is not a big deal at all, and that he is a happy, healthy little boy, but I just "knew" that it would be hard to keep glasses on him and that he would look different. I told Lofton that he would have to help me talk them up to Landon and tell him how cool they are. Lofton then asked me, "Are glasses not cool, momma?"

Well, we picked the glasses up today, and again I was reminded that kids are handle things much better than adults. He put them on and has been wearing them since; he hasn't even tried to take them off. He also looks pretty darn cute in them. While we were walking around Walmart, we saw our friend Jeremiah. Jeremiah commented on how much he liked Landon's glasses and then Jeremiah took two of his own pair out of his pocket to show Landon. Landon just looked at him and said, "You need to wear them, Jeremiah." So, hopefully, this will be an easy three months. We go back in April to see if the glasses have helped or if Landon will need a second surgery. Please pray that he won't!

Keeping Busy!

Days at home are great, but it is hard to keep Lofton off of the Wii. Yesterday, in an attempt to find something to do besides play video games, I pulled out crayons and coloring books, and to my surprise, we actually all colored for 15 minutes, which is something to blog about because I think it is the first time we've ever done it. Lofton doesn't like to color, but he enjoyed the mazes and dot to dots. Landon really liked coloring. He took his time and colored an entire page; the whole page is green, but he did a great job.

Then, at bathtime, Lofton decided to break out the goggles, which proved a good idea because they spent close to an hour playing in the tub. They were one big wrinkle when they got out, but that was one hour less on the Wii.

Seriously, I only let Lofton play a limited time a day, but I get tired of him saying, "I'm bored. There's nothing to do." I tell him I wish I had nothing to do.

Looks Like Girls Aren't So Bad Afterall!

Lofton came home from school on Wednesday telling me that he had fun playing with his friend. I asked who the friend is, and he said, "It is Macey; she is a girl." I knew better than to tease him, so I just asked him why he liked her. He said that he sits by her in chapel and when they're doing their work; he said that they play together too.

Well, then last night, as we were getting ready for bed Lofton asked, "Is tomorrow Friday, and are we going to school?" When I told him that we might not go because of snow, he was disappointed that he couldn't go see Macey.

This morning, I heard him get out of bed and run in the living room. Then he came in my room and said, "Mom, I prayed to God last night that it wouldn't snow so I could go to school and see Macey. And, guess what? It didn't snow." I hated to burst his bubble, but I told him that this is Tennessee and though there is no snow, we still didn't have school because it might snow later. I told him that I'd call Mrs. Terrie if he wanted me to and if Macey was at school that he could go. Believe it or not, he said ok. He actually wanted to go to school, but when I found out that Macey's mom is a teacher and that Macey wasn't there, he said, "Ok, I'll stay home and play video games." So, not only am I shocked that he wants to go to school to see a girl, but I can't believe he would choose going to school to see her over staying home to play the Wii! This must be a crush!

Cookies for Dinner?

The other night I actually made dinner, and when it was ready, I yelled for the boys to come eat. I told Landon that I had made one of his favorites, and he ran in and said, "You made cookies for dinner?"

Well, I had made spaghetti, and though he was disappointed, he ate every bite!

"SNOW"

The boys have been anxiously anticipating snow since Christmas, and we finally got a little last Thursday. Around 1:00pm, we had enough to play in, so being the great mom that I am (ha ha) I bundled myself and the boys up and took them outside. If you know me at all, I hate to be cold, so taking them out without Phillip is a big deal. I was pleasantly surprised that we stayed outside for about 50 minutes, and I didn't even get too cold; probably because I got a work out pulling them on the sled all over the neighborhood. We had fun sledding and making a little snowman. When we finally gave up and went in, the boys got warm by sitting with a blanket on the heater vent and watching Scooby Doo, and then they both played some video games.

Then, on Friday schools of course were out, and I didn't have to work, so the boys wanted to play in the snow again, but it was way too cold. I talked them out of it by taking them to McDonalds. Phillip was home on Saturday because he wasn't feeling well, but I talked him in to taking them out since we had gotten a little more snow. They had fun riding the sled behind Phillip's bike, and they found a few great hills to sled down before coming in. They were freezing, so I stripped off Landon's wet clothes and told him to run inside while I took Lofton's wet clothes off. When Lofton, Phillip, and I came in, I couldn't find Landon. When I yelled for him, he said, "I'm right here." I found him under our kitchen table face down on the heater vent trying to warm himself up!

Ringing in 2010

Landon had a nose bleed earlier that I apparently didn't get completely stopped!

We rang in 2010 with the Griffins, the Boyds, and our friend Kaia Judkins. It was a pretty low key party that wrapped up around 9:00pm because Phillip had to work at 4am New Year's Day, and let's face it, we're getting old. We celebrated by of course eating, and Amy came with crafts for the kids. They made snowmen that Landon refused to eat since he is such a huge fan of Frosty; he did break down and eat Frosty's Oreo hat. Amy also made some 2010 pipe cleaner glasses. The kids young and old had a great time. Happy New Year, everyone!
