January 2026 the week prior to Saturday, January 24th, we were getting warnings of potential 24 inches of snow and possible ice. Phillip and Landon had planned to go to Colorado to visit School of Mines and Air Force Academy and had planned to leave on Sunday the 25th after wrestling Region duals. Wrestling got canceled, so because of threat of weather, Phillip and Landon changed flight to Saturday. Phillip was unsure because of weather, but I told him Levi and I would be fine. We woke up Saturday to very little snow, and in fact, Levi was giving me a hard time telling me I jinxed it because I was prepared with groceries and batteries and propane. However, we woke up Sunday and things had taken a drastic change. We got a lot of ice over night. Around 10 am on Sunday, our power went off and did not come back on until Tuesday at around 1:30 or 2. Levi and I did well; he said we survived but didn't thrive, but honestly, I am proud to say we thrived. Jason brought us a small generator that we ran at night to have a space heater in my room. We had our propane heater buddy that was so helpful and firewood. We had a butane camping stove and was able to make hot chocolate and warm meals. I had gotten smart and downloaded two movies before we lost power, so Levi and I watched movies at night though he did not like my choice of Soul on Fire and Ice Road. We got a good laugh out of it though. We played Monopoly and cards and bonded. I felt like Ma Ingalls at times; I had gotten smart and filled tub when we turned off water and drained pipes so that we could flush toilets. However, our tub slowly let water out, so I ended up getting ice outside and melting in on butane stove to be able to flush toilets. On Tuesday, Levi and I had enough, so we walked to Jason's and got the Polaris and drove to Pappy's for a warm cheeseburger and fries. We passed all the linemen on our road, so we were happy about that. When we got home, the power was restored: just in time for Phillip and Landon to get home as Levi said. Phillip and Landon had fun and got their visits in; their flights were not canceled and they did have some snow in Colorado, but they did not have any trouble. We enjoyed the week off of school once we got power, but we hope that this is the last snow of the winter.
